Nowadays mineral make up is very popular, but if we go back to 2009 – not really that long ago -, it was mostly unknown and most of people had no idea of how to use it.
Since then things have definitely changed, and mineral make up has become one of the most loved cosmetic products all over the world.

When you think of mineral make up, it’s almost inevitable you end up thinking of bareMinerals. The American company founded by Leslie Blodgett in 1994 was the world’s first mineral make up line, and today it’s still one of the leading brands in this industry.

From QVC to Shiseido

Originally named Bare Escentuals (which is still the name of the company), the cosmetics line mainly consisted of their traditional mineral powder line, whose most characteristic ingredients have always been Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titan Dioxide and Zinc Dioxide.
When Leslie decided to create the line, her goal was providing the customers with a natural make up that wouldn’t cause skin irritations or breakouts, like many other cosmetics on the market (foundations, especially). This was the main reason behind the very first bareMinerals products, which were basically in the form of loose mineral-powder, in order to avoid any chemical ingredients – such as silicons – as binders or fillers.

Ingrid Nilsen for bareMinerals

The real boom of the company was in 1997, when QVC, the famous home shopping channel, started selling their products. bareMinerals became rapidly popular: the customers really liked and praised it as they were finally able to wear something natural, healthy and even beneficial to their skin.
Eventually, in 2010 the Japanese beauty company Shiseido decided to purchase Bare Escentuals and their mineral make up line. Since then, the American company expanded their range, including liquid and pressed foundations, eye make up palettes and skincare products.

Nowadays, bareMinerals is a well established company and its cosmetic line is often used on catwalks during the trendiest fashion weeks around the world.
The brand has recently signed up famous American YouTuber Ingrid Nilsen to become their ambassador.

Vegan and Cruelty-free

bareMinerals policy about animal testing and animal ingredients is very clear, and the company is committed to producing cruelty-free cosmetics.
On their website they state they do not test any of their products on animals, and do not work with any manufacturers that to animal testing. They also point out that no animals are harmed in the process of making their makeup brushes, which are made of goat and pony hairs (they also offer a range of synthetic brushes for those who don’t want to use animal haired brushes).
